If you already own Dragon’s Dogma 2 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or Steam, you do not need to buy the game again for Dark Arisen. Capcom is selling the Dark Arisen Expansion separately for $29.99, while the $49.99 Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen package is mainly the cleaner option for new players.
The base game also received Title Update 4.0 alongside Dark Arisen. Capcom’s official announcement lists the update’s features separately from the paid expansion; they are not part of the $29.99 expansion purchase.
Here is the practical split.
| If you are… | What you need |
|---|---|
| Already own Dragon’s Dogma 2 on PS5 | $29.99 Dark Arisen Expansion |
| Already own Dragon’s Dogma 2 on Xbox Series X|S | $29.99 Dark Arisen Expansion |
| Already own Dragon’s Dogma 2 on Steam | $29.99 Dark Arisen Expansion |
| New to Dragon’s Dogma 2 on PS5, Xbox or Steam | $49.99 Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen package is the straightforward option |
| Buying on Nintendo Switch 2 | Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen arrives as a combined base-game + expansion release |
| Only want Hard Mode or the listed PC graphics features | Do not buy Dark Arisen just for those features. They are base-game update features, separate from the paid expansion |
What does the $29.99 Dark Arisen Expansion actually add?
The paid expansion is the content package built around Norgan, a new snowy northern region.
Its main story component is called Forsaken Dominion. The Arisen travels to Norgan and joins Eir while investigating the undying Fallen Dragon.
Dark Arisen also adds 12 Lost Rites dungeon challenges across the existing Dragon’s Dogma 2 world. These are separate from the new Norgan story area and are designed around retrieving rare equipment associated with past Arisens.
The expansion also adds new hairstyles and tattoos for the character creator.
Those are the clearest dividing lines between the paid expansion and the base-game updates surrounding it. If you want Norgan, Forsaken Dominion, Lost Rites and the expansion-specific character options, you need Dark Arisen.
What did Title Update 4.0 include?
Capcom’s October 9 announcement says Title Update 4.0 released for Dragon’s Dogma 2 alongside Dark Arisen. It lists Hard Mode, an option to restart while carrying over current save data, FSR 3 Frame Generation and DLSS 4.5 Dynamic Multi Frame Generation on PC, and other features and improvements.
These are base-game update features. Dark Arisen remains a separate paid expansion.
What does the $49.99 Dark Arisen package include?
For a new player, Capcom is also selling Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen for $49.99.
Current PlayStation and Xbox listings show the package containing Dragon’s Dogma 2 and the Dark Arisen Expansion. Their digital listings also include the Explorer’s Camping Kit and Dragon’s Dogma Music & Sound Collection.
Those two older add-ons were already sold separately for the base game. The Camping Kit adds a special camping kit that can also become available through in-game shops, while the Music & Sound Collection changes selected music and sound effects to versions associated with the original Dragon’s Dogma.
That makes the $49.99 package considerably more attractive to somebody who does not own Dragon’s Dogma 2 yet.
At current US list pricing, the base game alone is $39.99 and the Dark Arisen Expansion is $29.99. Buying those separately would total $69.98 before any discounts.
Existing owners should be careful here. The storefronts explicitly warn about duplicate purchases, and there is normally no reason to rebuy the base game merely to access Dark Arisen.
Could bundle buyers play Dragon’s Dogma 2 before October 9?
Before Dark Arisen released on October 9, supported digital storefronts offered access to the Dragon’s Dogma 2 base game ahead of the expansion unlock.
Xbox and PlayStation product listings said buyers of the combined Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen package could access the existing base game before the expansion became available. The Steam package used the same general structure.
The early access period applied to the base game, not the Dark Arisen expansion. Norgan, Lost Rites and the other expansion content became available with Dark Arisen on October 9.
At launch, the Norgan Fashion Set – Northern Attire was a Japan-specific digital preorder bonus and early-purchase benefit for physical copies. That offer was tied to the launch window; this article does not establish current redemption availability. Capcom’s Japanese launch-eve announcement describes the regional terms.
How is the Switch 2 version different?
Nintendo Switch 2 is different because Dragon’s Dogma 2 was not already available there as the same existing product.
Capcom is bringing Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen to Switch 2 as a combined package, rather than offering existing Switch 2 owners a $29.99 expansion path.
Capcom also confirms that Hard Mode is included in the Switch 2 edition. On PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam, Hard Mode was added through a base-game update, separate from the $29.99 expansion.
In Japan, Capcom lists the combined edition at ¥5,990 including tax in both physical and digital formats. Its Japanese physical release is specified for Switch 2 and PS5. That does not establish boxed-copy availability in other regions or whether the Switch 2 physical copy uses a standard game card or a Game-Key Card.
Nintendo lists the game for October 9 and supports Save Data Cloud for the Switch 2 version.
That does not mean your PS5, Xbox or Steam Dragon’s Dogma 2 save can automatically move to Switch 2.
Nintendo’s Save Data Cloud feature handles supported saves inside Nintendo’s own platform ecosystem. It is not evidence of cross-platform Dragon’s Dogma 2 progression.
Capcom has not published a first-party Dragon’s Dogma 2 procedure that lets an existing PS5, Xbox or Steam save migrate to the Switch 2 release. If you are considering switching platforms specifically to continue an existing character, do not assume that progress will follow you.
What happens to an existing Dragon’s Dogma 2 save?
Dark Arisen is sold as DLC for the existing PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam versions of Dragon’s Dogma 2, so existing owners should keep their current installation and update it rather than buying another copy of the game.
Capcom’s October 9 launch announcement says Title Update 4.0 added an option to carry over current saved data and start the game again from the beginning.
That is different from cross-platform save transfer.
The feature concerns your existing Dragon’s Dogma 2 save within the supported game environment. It should not be read as confirmation that saves can move between PlayStation, Xbox, Steam and Switch 2.
Capcom’s older support pages also still contain some outdated save-system wording from before its 2026 updates. The newer title-update documentation is the better source for the current save system.
When did Dark Arisen launch?
Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen released on October 9, 2026. The release date has passed, so check your platform’s storefront for current purchase availability and region-specific details.
Do the PC requirements change for Dark Arisen?
The current Steam expansion listing uses the updated Dragon’s Dogma 2 PC requirements.
The minimum target lists Windows 11 64-bit, 16 GB of RAM, a Core i5-8500 or Ryzen 5 3500, and a GTX 1660 or Radeon RX 5500 XT with 8 GB of VRAM.
The recommended target lists a Core i7-10700 or Ryzen 5 3600X, 16 GB of RAM, and an RTX 2070 Super or Radeon RX 6600 XT.
Capcom describes the minimum target as roughly 1080p at 45 to 60 FPS using an upscaler with the Prioritize Performance setting. The recommended configuration targets 1080p/60 FPS under the same general performance mode.
Ray tracing requires at least an RTX 2080 Ti or Radeon RX 6800 according to the current Steam listing. An SSD is recommended.
Those requirements are particularly worth checking if you have not played Dragon’s Dogma 2 recently because Capcom revised the PC requirements during its 2026 optimization work.
Should existing owners buy Dark Arisen?
If you already own Dragon’s Dogma 2 and want the new Norgan story, Lost Rites dungeons and expansion content, the $29.99 expansion is the purchase that makes sense.
Do not buy it merely for Hard Mode, the documented PC graphics features or the save-data restart option. Capcom lists those as base-game update features separate from the paid expansion.
If you are completely new to the game, the $49.99 combined package is currently the stronger value than buying the $39.99 base game and $29.99 expansion separately.
And if you are considering moving an existing character to Switch 2, treat save migration as unresolved unless Capcom publishes explicit cross-platform support. Nintendo Save Data Cloud by itself does not establish that capability.
The purchase decision is straightforward once the base-game update and paid expansion are separated: existing owners buy the $29.99 DLC for the new Dark Arisen content, while new buyers should compare the $49.99 combined package against any platform-specific sale on the base game.
