As of October 30, 2026, Modern Warfare 4 is live. The prelaunch 10% Vault loyalty discount and Campaign and DMZ Early Access windows have ended. The choice now is whether Vault’s extra content is worth the current price on your platform, or whether Digital Standard is enough.
Activision lists the Vault Edition Upgrade as a separate purchase for $30 suggested retail price or the regional equivalent, and says physical editions cannot be upgraded. Treat those as edition rules, then check the live price and upgrade availability in the store for your account and platform.
Nintendo Switch 2 needs extra care: Activision’s official purchase and upgrade surfaces have not clearly documented a separate upgrade path. If you already own Standard, verify that the Nintendo eShop or in-game store offers an upgrade before budgeting for it.
Modern Warfare 4 is a separate purchase. Activision announced that it would not join Game Pass at launch and that subscription availability was planned for Holiday 2027; check current Game Pass listings for any later change.
The short answer
| Your situation | What to check now | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You only want the base game | Compare the Standard listings for your platform | Campaign and DMZ Early Access were preorder benefits. Their access windows have ended. |
| You want Vault content | Compare direct Vault with Standard plus the upgrade in your live store | The 10% loyalty discount was limited to eligible direct Vault preorders or prepurchases before launch and has ended. |
| You already own Digital Standard | Check whether your platform offers the Vault upgrade and confirm its current price | Activision lists a $30 suggested retail price or regional equivalent. Store prices can vary. |
| You own a physical Standard copy | Do not count on converting it to Vault | Activision says physical editions cannot be upgraded. |
| You play on Nintendo Switch 2 | Verify the exact upgrade option in the eShop or in-game store | Activision’s public upgrade information does not clearly establish a separate Nintendo upgrade product. |
Vault’s value is its premium packs, one BlackCell season and DMZ Deployment Bonus. The old Early Access dates and launch-only discount should not drive a purchase now.
What is actually different between Standard and Vault?
Digital Standard includes the base game. Vault includes the base game plus its premium content. The preorder access windows applied to eligible digital orders of either edition, but those windows ended when the game launched.
| Content | Digital Standard | Vault | Vault Edition Upgrade |
|---|---|---|---|
| Base game | Yes | Yes | Requires eligible Digital Standard ownership |
| Campaign and DMZ Early Access | Past preorder benefit | Past preorder benefit | Not a current reason to upgrade |
| Hostile Alliance Operator Pack | No | Yes | Yes |
| Special Forces Operator Pack | No | Yes | Yes |
| Signature Weapon Collection | No | Yes | Yes |
| BlackCell | No | One season, subject to timing terms | One season, subject to timing terms |
| DMZ Deployment Bonus | No | Yes | Yes |
| 10% loyalty discount | No | Expired at launch | Not available on upgrades |
Activision describes the Vault content and upgrade rules on its Modern Warfare 4 editions support page. Check your store listing for the current price and whether the upgrade is available for your account.
Do you need Vault for Campaign or DMZ Early Access?
No. Eligible digital preorders or prepurchases of any edition included Campaign Early Access beginning October 16 PT and DMZ Early Access beginning October 20 PT. Both windows ended at the worldwide launch on October 23, 2026.
Those dates are historical preorder benefits, not a reason to pay extra for Vault now. Vault’s separate value is its premium content and DMZ Deployment Bonus. Activision’s October 23 launch announcement confirms that the full game is live worldwide.
Is the 10% Vault loyalty discount still available?
No. Activision described the 10% discount as an offer for eligible digital Vault preorders or prepurchases before launch. That window ended when Modern Warfare 4 launched on October 23, 2026. The discount never applied to the separate Vault upgrade.
The historical eligibility rules covered players who owned and played a qualifying Call of Duty title on the relevant platform account, some PlayStation Plus Monthly Games claims, and eligible Game Pass subscribers who had played a qualifying title. Those rules do not make the expired offer available now. Use the live store price for a current purchase.

How should you compare Standard, Vault, and upgrade prices?
Compare the prices displayed in your own platform store. Regional pricing, taxes, sales and account-specific offers can change the total, so the old launch list-price comparison is no longer a reliable current quote.
Activision lists the Vault Edition Upgrade as a separate purchase for a $30 suggested retail price or regional equivalent. It also says the 10% loyalty discount applied only to a direct eligible Vault preorder or prepurchase, not to an upgrade. That offer has ended.
Before paying, confirm that your account owns an eligible digital Standard edition, that the upgrade is offered for your platform, and that the displayed total is acceptable. On Nintendo Switch 2, verify the specific upgrade product in the eShop or in-game store because Activision’s public upgrade surfaces remain unclear.

When does buying Standard first make sense?
If you want the base game and do not value the Vault packs, BlackCell season or DMZ Deployment Bonus, Standard is the simpler choice. If you already own Digital Standard and later decide you want the Vault content, compare the current upgrade price with the direct Vault listing before buying.
The $30 figure is Activision’s suggested retail price or regional equivalent, not a guarantee that every platform store shows that price today. Check the exact store listing and included content first. Physical Standard editions cannot be upgraded, and Nintendo Switch 2’s separate upgrade path is not clearly documented in Activision’s current public surfaces.
The 10% loyalty discount was a preorder or prepurchase offer before launch. Do not include it in a current price comparison.
Can a physical Standard copy be upgraded to Vault?
No.
Activision says physical editions of Modern Warfare 4 cannot be upgraded to the Vault Edition.
The support page currently lists physical editions for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.
That creates a simple buying rule:
If you want a disc, buy the physical edition because you value the physical copy, not because you expect to convert it into Vault later.
If you think you may want the Vault packs later, the digital purchase path is safer because the official upgrade route is tied to Digital Standard ownership.
There is another consequence: Activision describes Campaign Early Access as a benefit for digital editions, so the physical purchase should not be treated as an Early Access option.

How does BlackCell timing work after launch?
Vault includes one season of BlackCell, but the season depends on when you buy or upgrade. Activision’s editions support page says a Vault preorder or prepurchase received the Season 1 BlackCell offer, while a purchase or upgrade after launch receives BlackCell at the start of the first new season after that transaction.
Because the game is already live, check Activision’s current support wording and the platform checkout details before treating a particular season as included. The edition includes one season; it does not guarantee that a post-launch purchase grants a past season.

Is Modern Warfare 4 in Game Pass?
Activision announced on October 15 that Modern Warfare 4 would launch as a separate purchase and was planned to join Game Pass in Holiday 2027. The game is not included in that launch announcement’s current subscription offer. Check the current Game Pass catalog for any later change.
Game Pass no longer creates eligibility for the expired Vault loyalty discount. That earlier offer was limited to a qualifying direct Vault preorder or prepurchase before launch.

What is different on Nintendo Switch 2?
Modern Warfare 4 is available for Nintendo Switch 2, but Activision’s public pages have not clearly documented a separate Vault upgrade product for the platform.
On the official surfaces reviewed, Activision’s general game page includes Nintendo in an upgrade selector, while its dedicated upgrade information does not clearly show a Nintendo-specific upgrade listing. The pages therefore do not provide enough consistent detail to promise that a Standard owner can add Vault later.
If you already own Standard, check the Nintendo eShop or the in-game store for an upgrade tied to your account before making plans. Do not assume that another platform’s $30 suggested price or upgrade rules apply to Nintendo.
Nintendo loyalty discount
The 10% Vault loyalty offer was limited to eligible preorders or prepurchases before launch and has ended. Its historical eligibility rules required qualifying Call of Duty ownership or play on the same platform account. Activision’s public pages did not clearly resolve how that rule applied to Nintendo Switch 2, so the old uncertainty should not be presented as a current discount opportunity.

What does Vault’s DMZ Deployment Bonus include?
Activision says Vault Edition owners receive one extra Active Duty slot and a Deployment Kit with:
- Two Weapon Insurance Contracts
- Two Operator Rescue Beacons
- Two Fulton Drop Markers
- Two Medium Backpacks
- Two 2-Plate Carriers
These are Vault bonuses, separate from the expired DMZ Early Access window. Activision lists the items but does not establish that the bundle is worth the extra cost to every player. Compare the kit and extra slot with the current store price and other Vault content.
For documented DMZ progression and gear rules, see our Modern Warfare 4 DMZ progression guide.
Which edition should you buy now?
Choose Standard if:
- you want the base game without Vault’s premium packs
- you do not value the included BlackCell season or DMZ Deployment Bonus
- you prefer a physical copy and accept that it cannot be upgraded to Vault
Choose Vault if:
- you want the Operator packs and Signature Weapon Collection
- the included BlackCell season matters to you under Activision’s current timing terms
- you value the extra DMZ Active Duty slot and Deployment Kit
If you own Digital Standard:
- check that your account and platform have a Vault upgrade listing
- compare the current upgrade price with the direct Vault price
- confirm which BlackCell season the transaction includes
If you play on Nintendo Switch 2:
Verify any upgrade in the eShop or in-game store. Activision’s public pages do not clearly establish a separate Nintendo upgrade path.
The 10% loyalty discount and Early Access windows were prelaunch benefits. They have ended and should not be used to justify a purchase now.
Why storefront dates can look different
Modern Warfare 4 launched worldwide on October 23, 2026. Platform listings can show a neighboring calendar date because stores display local release times and regional catalog information. For current availability, ownership eligibility and edition content, use the listing for your region and platform together with Activision’s support page.

What to recheck before paying
Before buying or upgrading, verify:
- the current regional price and tax in your platform store
- whether Vault is offered directly or as an upgrade for your account
- that a Standard-to-Vault upgrade applies to the edition you own
- which BlackCell season is included in a post-launch transaction
- whether the DMZ Deployment Kit and extra Active Duty slot are useful to you
- the Nintendo upgrade listing, if you play on Switch 2
- the current Game Pass catalog if subscription access matters to you
The prelaunch 10% loyalty discount and Early Access windows have ended. Current store terms are the source of truth for price and platform availability.
