Ghost of Yōtei’s October 2026 update has three different layers that are easy to mix together: a free patch for every existing owner, a $14.99 USD Complete Edition Upgrade for owners who want the new paid content, and a $69.99 USD Complete Edition for new players.
The key buying decision is simple. If you already own Ghost of Yōtei and only want the new quality-of-life and presentation features, you do not need to buy the upgrade. If you want the new Echoes of Sekigahara story expansion and Most Wanted single-player survival mode, those are part of the paid Complete Edition content.
Quick answer: what is free and what is paid?
| Content | Existing owner without paid upgrade | Complete Edition Upgrade |
|---|---|---|
| Beauty of Yōtei mode | Included free | Included |
| New Watanabe Mode tracks | Included free | Included |
| Armor appearance with different set stats | Included free | Included |
| High-contrast accessibility option | Included free | Included |
| Echoes of Sekigahara story expansion | Not included | Included |
| Most Wanted survival mode | Not included | Included |
| Digital Deluxe in-game content if not already owned | Not added by the free patch | Included |
| Charm of Hokkyokusei if not already owned | Not added by the free patch | Included |
Prices above refer to Sony’s U.S. announcement. Regional store prices can differ.
What every Ghost of Yōtei owner gets for free
Patch 2.0 adds several features without requiring the $14.99 Complete Edition Upgrade.
Sucker Punch says all existing owners receive:
- Beauty of Yōtei mode, a way to browse and photograph the environments of Ezo
- new music tracks for Watanabe Mode throughout the game where that mode is enabled
- an option to keep one armor set’s appearance while using another set’s stats
- a new high-contrast accessibility option
This distinction matters because the first Complete Edition announcement was later corrected to clarify that the new Watanabe Mode tracks belong to the free patch, not only to the paid Complete Edition.
What the $14.99 Complete Edition Upgrade adds
If you already own the base game, Sony says the Complete Edition Upgrade costs $14.99 USD in the U.S.
The upgrade is the route to the two major new paid additions:
- Ghost of Yōtei: Echoes of Sekigahara, a narrative expansion that moves between the present and Atsu’s past around the Battle of Sekigahara
- Ghost of Yōtei: Most Wanted, a single-player combat survival mode built around repeatable runs, bounties, perks, and multiple playable characters
The upgrade also includes in-game content that was previously part of the Digital Deluxe Edition, plus the Charm of Hokkyokusei, when you do not already own that content.
If your only goal is the free patch features, the paid upgrade is unnecessary. If your goal is the new story expansion or Most Wanted mode, the free patch alone does not provide them.
What new players get in the $69.99 Complete Edition
For players who do not already own Ghost of Yōtei, Sony’s U.S. announcement lists the Complete Edition at $69.99 USD.
It includes:
- the base Ghost of Yōtei game
- Ghost of Yōtei Legends, the online co-op mode
- Echoes of Sekigahara
- Most Wanted
- the previously released Digital Deluxe in-game content
- the Charm of Hokkyokusei
- additional photo-mode stamps and New Game Plus cosmetics
- new Trophies tied to Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted
Online multiplayer in Legends still requires PlayStation Plus under Sony’s normal multiplayer rules.
Do you still get the Sakai Armor early-unlock bonus?
The early-unlock promotion was tied to purchases or pre-orders completed by September 30, 2026.
That deadline has passed as of this October 1 evidence check, so it should not be treated as a current reason to buy the upgrade or Complete Edition now.
The armor itself is not described as permanently unavailable. The promotion was specifically an early unlock, allowing qualifying buyers to use it without first unlocking it through Most Wanted.
Why some regions get patch 2.0 on October 2
Sony’s footnote says patch 2.0 is available on October 1, 2026 globally, but on October 2, 2026 in some territories including Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.
That means players in affected regions should not assume something is wrong if the Complete Edition content or free patch does not appear on October 1 local time.
Sony also says an internet connection and PlayStation account are required to download the patch.
Which option makes sense?
If you already own Ghost of Yōtei and only want the quality-of-life additions: install the free patch and skip the paid upgrade.
If you already own the game and want Echoes of Sekigahara or Most Wanted: the Complete Edition Upgrade is the relevant paid option.
If you do not own the game: the Complete Edition packages the base game, Legends, both new paid additions, and the listed bonus content together.
The useful distinction is therefore not “Complete Edition or nothing.” Existing owners can take the free patch without buying the new paid content.
