If you already own the KINGDOM HEARTS Cloud Versions on Nintendo Switch, the new native Switch 2 releases are not free upgrades. Square Enix is instead offering eligible owners a 50% discount on corresponding digital versions, and Cloud Version save data can transfer to the native Switch 2 digital releases.

The native collection launches on October 8, 2026. The old Cloud Versions have already been removed from sale and will stop working on June 9, 2027 at 14:59 UTC.

There is one important exception that is easy to miss: KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX- is also receiving a native version for the original Nintendo Switch. Square Enix’s support notice lists both that new Switch version and the Switch 2 version as eligible for the Cloud-owner discount. The other new Nintendo releases in this migration are Switch 2 versions.

For Switch 2 owners, storage is another major consideration. Nintendo’s current bundle listing estimates the complete KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I-III] at 131 GB.

Who gets the 50% KINGDOM HEARTS discount?

The basic rule is ownership-based.

Square Enix says owners of an individual Cloud Version are eligible for a discount on the corresponding digital native version. Owners of KINGDOM HEARTS INTEGRUM MASTERPIECE for Cloud qualify for discounts across all of the listed digital versions.

Nintendo’s Switch 2 bundle page additionally says owners of all of the KINGDOM HEARTS Cloud titles individually, as well as INTEGRUM MASTERPIECE owners, qualify for the 50% discount on the complete Collection and the native Switch 2 games.

What you own Confirmed discount path
1.5+2.5 Cloud Version Corresponding native version
2.8 Cloud Version Switch 2 digital 2.8
III + Re Mind Cloud Version Switch 2 digital III + Re Mind
INTEGRUM MASTERPIECE for Cloud All listed digital versions
All Cloud titles individually Nintendo says the full Switch 2 Collection also qualifies
Physical Collection No Cloud-owner discount

The important point is that this is a discounted repurchase, not an automatic license conversion.

The 1.5+2.5 exception: there is also a native Nintendo Switch version

This is the biggest detail that can be missed if you only look at the Switch 2 Collection.

KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX- launches natively on both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on October 8. Square Enix’s North American and European support notices explicitly list both versions under the Cloud-owner discount.

Nintendo’s product copy is less consistent. Some regional Nintendo pages for the new original-Switch edition advertise the Cloud-owner discount specifically for the Switch 2 version, while Square Enix’s support documentation lists both native versions.

Because Square Enix’s support notice directly defines the eligible-title list, it is the stronger evidence that the native Switch version is included. However, an original-Switch owner should still verify the actual discounted price displayed by their regional Nintendo eShop before completing the purchase.

Should you buy native 1.5+2.5 on Switch or Switch 2?

If you already own a Switch 2, buying the Switch 2 edition directly avoids an unnecessary second migration.

Nintendo says there are currently no plans for an upgrade path from the new native Nintendo Switch edition to the Switch 2 edition.

The saves do have a forward path. Nintendo says save data from the new native Nintendo Switch version can be transferred to Switch 2, but Switch 2 save data cannot be moved back to the original Switch version.

So the native-Switch path is sensible primarily for somebody who still intends to play on the original hardware. If Switch 2 is already your destination, there is little reason to buy the native Switch release first expecting it to become a free Switch 2 copy later.

Can Cloud Version saves transfer?

Yes, with an important scope distinction.

Square Enix’s English support notice explicitly confirms transfer from the old Cloud Versions to the Nintendo Switch 2 digital versions.

Square Enix’s Japanese collection page uses broader wording, saying Cloud Version save data can carry over to the downloadable digital versions while also identifying the original-Switch 1.5+2.5 release.

Because the regional wording is not perfectly aligned, the conservative guarantee is simple: Cloud-to-Switch 2 digital save migration is confirmed.

A Cloud-to-new-native-original-Switch transfer for 1.5+2.5 should not be promised globally until Square Enix provides equally explicit regional instructions.

How do you transfer the Cloud save?

Square Enix has confirmed that the transfer will be possible, but the official sources reviewed through October 3 do not provide a complete step-by-step migration procedure.

That means we should not invent steps involving accounts, menus, uploads or a particular transfer utility.

Nintendo’s September 30 UK release roundup still describes the process only at the high level: Cloud owners can purchase the native Switch 2 versions at a discount and transfer their saved progress.

The actual migration instructions remain a launch-day recheck item.

When do the old Cloud Versions stop working?

Sales ended on June 9, 2026.

Square Enix says the existing Cloud Versions remain playable until June 9, 2027 at 14:59 UTC.

The discontinued products are:

  • KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX- Cloud Version
  • KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue Cloud Version
  • KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind Cloud Version
  • KINGDOM HEARTS INTEGRUM MASTERPIECE for Cloud

For players planning to preserve an existing save, that makes June 2027 a real migration deadline unless Square Enix later documents a transfer method that continues working after shutdown. No such post-shutdown guarantee appears in the official material reviewed here.

Does the 50% discount expire on launch day?

Square Enix says the 50% discount applies to eligible digital pre-orders and post-launch digital purchases.

The current official wording therefore does not make October 8 the end of the offer.

Square Enix has not provided an expiry date for the discount in the material reviewed here. That should not be converted into a claim that the discount will exist permanently. It simply means no cutoff has currently been published.

How much storage does KINGDOM HEARTS need?

Nintendo currently lists the complete digital Collection at an estimated 131 GB.

Release Estimated size
KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX- on Switch 2 54.2 GB
KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue 26.8 GB
KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind 45.2 GB
Complete Collection bundle 131 GB

The individual estimates add up to less than Nintendo’s listed 131 GB bundle requirement. These are all pre-release estimates, so the safer storage-planning number for someone installing the complete Collection is Nintendo’s own 131 GB bundle figure, rather than trying to derive a different total by adding the three individual pages.

Nintendo also warns that final required space can differ from the preorder estimate. Switch 2 expansion storage requires microSD Express cards.

How large is native 1.5+2.5 on the original Switch?

Nintendo’s Australian eShop currently estimates the new native original-Switch edition at about 54.1 GB.

That is radically different from the old Cloud Version’s small local client, which Nintendo lists at only 77 MB because the actual game was streamed remotely.

The new version therefore removes the Cloud-streaming dependency at the cost of substantial local storage.

Is the physical Collection completely on the cartridge?

Do not assume that it is.

Square Enix explicitly states that playing the physical Switch 2 Collection requires an internet connection and an additional data download.

The first-party sources reviewed do not specify the required additional download size, how much content is stored physically, or whether the retail product uses a standard full-game card or another Switch 2 physical distribution format.

Because Square Enix has not stated those details in the sources reviewed, the article should not label the physical edition a Game-Key Card or claim a specific cartridge capacity based on retailer or secondary reporting.

Does the Cloud-owner discount work on physical copies?

No.

Square Enix explicitly restricts the Cloud-owner offer to eligible digital versions and says the physical KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I-III] is not eligible.

That gives existing Cloud owners a real tradeoff.

  • Digital: eligible ownership discount, confirmed Cloud save migration to Switch 2, substantial storage requirement.
  • Physical: physical retail product, no Cloud-owner discount, still requires internet and an additional download, exact downloaded amount currently unconfirmed.

What is included in KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I-III]?

The bundle contains three collections.

KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX-

  • KINGDOM HEARTS FINAL MIX
  • KINGDOM HEARTS Re:Chain of Memories
  • KINGDOM HEARTS II FINAL MIX
  • KINGDOM HEARTS 358/2 Days as an HD cutscene compilation
  • KINGDOM HEARTS Birth by Sleep FINAL MIX
  • KINGDOM HEARTS Re:coded as an HD cutscene compilation

KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue

  • KINGDOM HEARTS Dream Drop Distance HD
  • KINGDOM HEARTS χ Back Cover
  • KINGDOM HEARTS 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A fragmentary passage –

KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind

  • KINGDOM HEARTS III
  • Re Mind DLC

The three components can also be purchased individually.

Can you try KINGDOM HEARTS III first?

Yes.

A free KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind demo is available for Switch 2. Nintendo says it includes an early Olympus section and part of Toy Box.

Save data from the first section carries over to the full game. Nintendo does not make the same carry-over promise for the Toy Box section.

What is the Long Night Keyblade?

Switch 2 purchases of KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind or the complete Collection include the Nintendo-exclusive Long Night Keyblade.

It is a platform purchase bonus, not another game or collection.

What do early Switch 2 previews say about performance?

Square Enix and Nintendo still have not published official Switch 2 frame-rate or resolution targets for these releases. However, early hands-on and demo coverage now provides useful preliminary evidence. These results should be treated as pre-release observations, not final launch specifications.

RPG Site tested the public KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind demo in both docked and handheld modes. Its June testing reported dynamic resolution around 1080p to 1296p in the sampled docked scenes and roughly 720p to 900p in the sampled handheld scenes. It also found an uncapped frame rate moving between 30 and 60 FPS rather than a locked 60 FPS experience. The outlet explicitly treated the demo as pre-release software and said final-game testing would still be needed.

Later hands-on coverage suggests the older games may be less demanding. Nintendo Everything described KINGDOM HEARTS II as clean and smooth during a short September handheld session, while its KINGDOM HEARTS III session also felt smooth. An invited creator preview from lowkeymatt reported that the older 1.5+2.5 titles felt like a solid 60 FPS in handheld play, but also disclosed that the preview build was from March and that no docked testing was available.

Another invited creator, ProdigyxCD, reported noticeable frame drops in 0.2 during a handheld preview even while describing the older numbered games as much steadier. Taken together, the evidence is encouraging for the older collections but still too mixed and pre-release to turn into a blanket performance claim for the entire bundle.

For buyers, the practical conclusion is unchanged: the move from Cloud streaming to native software is confirmed, but final Switch 2 performance remains a launch-day verification item. IGZ should re-test or use reliable final-build measurements before presenting any FPS or resolution figure as definitive.

Which version makes the most sense for an existing Cloud owner?

If you own only one Cloud title, first check the price of its corresponding discounted digital version rather than automatically buying the full Collection.

If you own INTEGRUM MASTERPIECE for Cloud, all listed digital versions are discount-eligible.

If you own all the individual Cloud releases, Nintendo says you also qualify for the full Collection discount.

For 1.5+2.5 owners, there is now another decision:

  • stay on original Switch and buy the new native Switch version
  • move directly to the native Switch 2 version

If you already own Switch 2, the second path is cleaner because Nintendo explicitly says the native Switch release will not have an upgrade path to Switch 2 later.

If physical ownership matters more than the discount, the physical Collection exists, but it loses the Cloud-owner discount and still requires an additional download.

What IGZ should recheck at launch

Several details remain genuinely unresolved rather than overlooked:

  • exact Cloud-save migration procedure
  • whether regional eShop behavior consistently exposes the native original-Switch 1.5+2.5 discount described by Square Enix
  • final storage requirements
  • physical-edition download size
  • exact physical media format
  • Switch 2 docked and handheld resolution
  • Switch 2 frame rate
  • any launch-day performance modes

These should be updated from first-party documentation and reliable measurements rather than filled with assumptions.

Bottom line

KINGDOM HEARTS finally moves away from Cloud-only play on Nintendo hardware, but existing owners should treat October 8 as a migration decision, not simply another rerelease.

The most important facts are:

  • native Switch 2 versions launch October 8
  • eligible Cloud owners receive a 50% digital discount
  • Cloud saves can transfer to the Switch 2 digital releases
  • 1.5+2.5 also gets a native original-Switch edition
  • Square Enix lists both the native Switch and Switch 2 editions of 1.5+2.5 as Cloud-discount eligible
  • there is no planned free native Switch-to-Switch 2 upgrade
  • native Switch 1.5+2.5 saves can move to Switch 2, but not back
  • the Cloud service shuts down June 9, 2027 at 14:59 UTC
  • Nintendo estimates the complete Switch 2 Collection at 131 GB
  • the physical edition requires an additional download
  • physical copies do not receive the Cloud-owner discount
  • no official Switch 2 FPS or resolution target has yet been published

For existing Cloud owners, the first thing to do is therefore not press Buy on the $74.99 Collection. Check exactly which Cloud licenses your Nintendo Account owns, then compare the eligible digital migration price with the Collection before deciding.
