Steam Next Fest is live October 19 to 26, 2026, with the event opening and closing at 10 AM Pacific. On October 22, all ten Steam pages in this guide displayed an Install Demo option. That does not establish a successful Steam-client download on every PC or prove that all ten games are in the official festival lineup.

Compare six demos backed by publisher or developer October Next Fest announcements with four additional Steam demo listings. Two of the latter, We Build Below and The Rifted Skies, also link to the live festival from their Steam pages. Check the operating systems, minimum RAM and storage, VR requirements and developer-specific save-transfer rules before installing. These are published requirements, not IGZ performance tests. Steam storefront details were rechecked on October 22, 2026; game installation and launch were not tested.

When does Steam Next Fest October 2026 start and end?

Valve’s official event schedule sets the opening for Monday, October 19 at 10 AM Pacific and the closing for Monday, October 26 at 10 AM Pacific. That is 10 PM in Pakistan on both days. The festival is now live at Steam’s official Next Fest page.

Valve requires participating games to be unreleased until after the event and to have a public playable demo by kickoff. A game can have a demo on Steam without being confirmed as an October participant. Developers can also withdraw. Do not use the presence of a demo download as your only evidence of Next Fest registration.

Six demos with confirmed October Next Fest plans

JanduSoft’s September 25 announcement explicitly names several October participants, including the four below. Synapse Grid and ERLIK separately announce their own October Next Fest plans on Steam. Each linked Steam page displayed Install Demo on October 22, but that is not the same as a successful Steam-client download or launch.

Demo Genre and status Minimum RAM / storage Check before playing
TREMEN Single-player shooter; demo listed since February 17 8 GB RAM · about 3.6 GB storage Developer announced new demo levels and mechanics for October Next Fest.
Dark Rail Turn-based management roguelike; demo listed since July 17 8 GB RAM · 8 GB storage Recommended requirements contain suspiciously small figures. See warning below.
Ariadne’s Tale First-person puzzle adventure; demo listed since September 25 8 GB RAM · 4 GB storage Use a magical thread to navigate traps in the Labyrinth.
Dark Alley Detective mystery; demo listed since September 28 8 GB RAM · 8 GB storage The demo focuses on the opening chapter, not the whole mystery.
Synapse Grid Light-cycle action beta; demo listed since September 8 4 GB RAM · 2 GB storage (Windows / native Linux) Vulkan 1.1 GPU required. Multiplayer and demo content remain beta-dependent.
ERLIK Folklore roguelite; Steam displays Install Demo as of October 22 4 GB RAM · 1 GB storage (Windows / macOS) Developer promises demo progress transfer to Early Access on the same PC.

Do not trust Dark Rail’s recommended hardware numbers without checking again. Its demo page lists a Windows minimum of 8 GB RAM and 8 GB available storage, then gives a recommended tier of 16 MB RAM and 8 MB storage. Those recommended units appear inconsistent with the rest of the same page. We cannot supply corrected numbers without confirmation from the developer.

Synapse Grid has a different compatibility trap. Its Steam page says there is a native Linux/SteamOS build, but the graphics requirement is specifically Vulkan 1.1, with no DirectX or OpenGL fallback. A graphics card that cannot run the required API is a blocker regardless of the amount of RAM installed. The developer describes the online mode as a changing beta. Do not treat a store feature label as a verified promise of reliable matchmaking on your system.

Four other Steam demo listings to check

All four Steam pages displayed Install Demo on October 22. We Build Below and The Rifted Skies also link to the live October Next Fest event from their Steam listings. That provides stronger event evidence for those two, but does not confirm every game in this group against an exhaustive festival roster. These listings also do not establish a completed download or game launch.

Demo What you can try Minimum RAM / storage Key limitation
We Build Below Underground factory building, defense and co-op for 1 to 3 players 8 GB RAM · 2 GB storage Its October 12 demo covers only the early-to-middle gameplay loop.
Groovekeeper: Sort the Record Shop Sorting records and running a quiet music shop 4 GB RAM · 2 GB storage Do not infer full-game save transfer from demo-update compatibility.
XENOFALL Two playable hunters, two maps and two bosses 8 GB RAM · 10 GB storage Developer warns that demo progress may not carry into the full game.
The Rifted Skies Parkour combat and progression in virtual reality 8 GB RAM · 5 GB storage VR-only. Requires a compatible OpenXR headset and motion controllers.

If you want co-op, We Build Below advertises support for up to three players. If you are looking for something low-pressure, Groovekeeper is organized around sorting records rather than combat. XENOFALL makes its demo boundaries unusually clear. The Rifted Skies should be skipped if you only have a normal monitor and no compatible VR setup.

Which demos work on Linux, macOS or Steam Deck?

Windows: All ten demo pages list Windows support or requirements. Make sure you read the demo’s own requirements, not just the full game’s hardware table.

Linux / SteamOS: Synapse Grid explicitly lists a native Linux/SteamOS build. That does not prove it is Steam Deck Verified, and its Vulkan 1.1 requirement still applies. For other Windows demos, a Steam Deck or Proton installation might be possible, but compatibility should not be assumed from a Windows listing.

macOS: ERLIK’s demo page lists macOS 11 or later with a 4 GB RAM and 1 GB storage minimum, plus a Metal-compatible GPU. Check the available build on your Mac before downloading. Steam Deck status and macOS support are different questions.

VR: The Rifted Skies is listed as VR Only, not VR Optional. Its demo specifies OpenXR support and motion controllers. A mouse-and-keyboard PC setup without a headset is not an alternative playing mode.

For general changes affecting Valve’s handheld platform, see our SteamOS 3.8.28 guide. That guide is not a substitute for checking each individual game’s compatibility badge.

Do Steam Next Fest demo saves transfer to the full game?

Not by default. Valve’s Steamworks demo documentation explains that developers can share Steam Cloud storage between a demo and the full game. It is an available implementation choice, not a universal Steam Next Fest feature.

  • Synapse Grid: its developer says Steam Cloud carries progress from the demo into the full game. That is a developer claim, not an independently tested transfer.
  • ERLIK: the demo page says progress carries to the full game on the same PC. Do not extend that wording to a different PC or a different storefront without confirmation.
  • XENOFALL: its Steam demo description explicitly warns that progress may not carry over.
  • Other listed demos: treat carryover as unconfirmed unless the specific developer says otherwise. Steam Cloud support, demo achievements or saves surviving a demo patch do not independently establish full-game transfer.

If you intend to buy a game because of the time you spend in its demo, check the developer’s latest save-transfer statement first. For games with no promise, assume you may have to start again.

Will these demos disappear when Next Fest ends on October 26?

Not necessarily. Valve lets developers decide when to release their demos and whether to leave them available after an event. Some demos predate October by months. Others may be removed or deactivated shortly after the festival. The event’s closing date is not a single universal deadline for every demo.

If a demo is important to you, open its Steam page, check any developer announcement about its removal and plan your playtime accordingly. Adding a demo to your library is also not a permanent guarantee it will remain launchable if its developer later deactivates it.

What should you try first?

Pick by the limitation that matters to your setup, not by an unsupported ranking. Start with We Build Below if you want three-player co-op. Consider Ariadne’s Tale or Dark Alley for puzzles and exploration. Synapse Grid is worth checking if you have Vulkan-capable hardware and are comfortable with beta limitations. VR owners can inspect The Rifted Skies once headset compatibility is confirmed.

Browse the live Steam Next Fest lineup for more demos before the festival ends on October 26. Game builds, requirements and demo expiration dates may change, so check the game’s current Steam page before downloading.
