Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse Standard vs Midnight: Demo Saves, Switch 2 and What to Buy

Standard includes the full Castlevania: Belmont's Curse game. Midnight adds digital extras for $10 more on US PS5. Compare demo-save rules, Switch 2 support and release dates.

If you just want to play Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, the Standard Edition contains the full game. On the US PlayStation Store, it costs $29.99. The $39.99 Midnight Edition adds an art and music gallery, two extra outfits and an in-game relic. That $10 difference buys extras, not a separate story campaign.

There are two more decisions worth making before paying. The free demo can carry your progress into the full game, but Konami has account and platform restrictions. Nintendo Switch buyers also have a different performance specification, while Switch 2 players are currently buying the backward-compatible Switch release rather than a separately listed native Switch 2 version.

Standard vs Midnight Edition: what changes?

The table below combines Konami’s official edition list with the two US PlayStation digital prices verified on October 8. It is not a claim that every platform and region charges the same amount.

Included item Standard Edition Midnight Edition
Full game Yes Yes
US PS5 digital list price $29.99 $39.99
Digital Sound & Art Gallery No Yes
Trevor Style Costume No Yes
Sypha Style Costume No Yes
Family’s Grace relic No Yes
Alucard Style Costume early-purchase/preorder offer Eligible under the published offer Eligible under the published offer

Konami says the gallery contains music playback and more than 100 pieces of production art. It is a separate application, not a second game mode inside the main adventure. The extra costumes and Family’s Grace relic are the gameplay-facing Midnight bonuses that Konami currently lists.

Which edition should you buy? Choose Standard if your main goal is Rose Belmont’s adventure and you do not value the gallery, costumes or relic. Midnight makes sense if those exact extras are worth another $10 to you. There is no supported reason to pay more just to obtain the full base game.

Konami lists physical Midnight Editions in some markets, but retailer-specific collectibles are separate from the standard digital package. Its European announcement mentions SteelBook and tarot-card incentives at select retailers. Check the exact retailer and territory rather than assuming every Midnight purchase includes them.

Can you add Midnight extras after buying Standard?

Nintendo lists the Midnight bonuses as separate downloadable products. Its US Switch store identifies a Bonus Contents Pack and a Digital Sound & Art Gallery, while the Midnight Edition combines the base game with both. Nintendo’s separate Bonus Contents Pack listing describes the two costumes and Family’s Grace relic.

That means there are product listings for the extras, but the stores we could verify did not establish their separate US prices or an official discounted upgrade from Standard to Midnight. Do not assume you can upgrade for free, that the add-ons cost exactly $10 together, or that purchasing Midnight again is necessary.

If you already own Standard, check the add-on listings for your specific platform, region and account before spending anything on another edition. Konami has not provided a confirmed universal upgrade price in the sources reviewed here.

Does the free demo save transfer to the full game?

Yes, with conditions. Konami’s October 1 demo covers the opening portion of Belmont’s Curse and says the save can be carried into the released game.

Keep these four requirements in mind:

  1. Play the demo and full game on the same platform
  2. Use the same account
  3. Keep the demo save data
  4. Update the full game to its latest version before transferring progress

These are Konami’s conditions. They do not establish cross-platform transfers between a Steam, PS5, Xbox or Nintendo account. Even when two systems belong to the same console family, do not assume save migration works until the relevant platform confirms the exact path.

The demo is listed for PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S and Steam. It is useful as a free way to check the opening combat and movement before choosing an edition, but playing it does not prove how every part of the full game will perform.

What happens if you play the Switch version on Switch 2?

Nintendo’s US storefront lists Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse as Nintendo Switch software and marks it compatible with Switch 2. At the October 8 checkpoint, there is no separately verified native Switch 2 edition in those listings.

Konami’s published specification puts the original Nintendo Switch version at 30 fps and the PS5, Xbox Series and PC versions at 60 fps. This is the official platform specification, not a benchmark taken by Instant Game Zone.

There is a useful complication. Nintendo Life reported that the free Switch demo running on Switch 2 appeared to approach 60 fps in its early hands-on experience. That is encouraging for owners of the newer console, but it is a demo observation, not Konami promising that the entire retail Switch release will run at a locked 60 fps on Switch 2.

If handheld play is the reason you want this version, try the demo on your own console before buying. If predictable published 60 fps support matters more than portability, Konami’s PS5, Xbox Series and PC specifications are the clearer evidence today.

Is the release date October 14 or October 15?

Konami announces October 15, 2026. Nintendo’s US Switch listings and the US PlayStation storefront also give October 15. But the current Steam page displays October 14 as its release date.

The listings do not establish, by themselves, whether that difference reflects storefront presentation, unlock timing or a later adjustment. Do not assume the Steam date means a globally available extra day of access.

If you need to play at a specific time, use the current release/unlock information on the storefront where you plan to buy. The US PlayStation product page presently gives a more specific unlock listing of October 15 at 04:00 UTC. Treat that as the PS5 storefront’s stated time, not a universal release time for all platforms.

Do the Steam bundles save money?

Steam also lists bundles pairing Belmont’s Curse with Dead Cells and Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania, or with V Rising and its Legacy of Castlevania Premium Pack. Both Standard and Midnight configurations appear in these offers.

Steam advertises a 10% discount on the multi-item bundle. That is not a 10% discount on a standalone copy of Belmont’s Curse. The checkout total can also reflect sales on the other included games, so a headline bundle percentage is not enough to identify your cheapest purchase.

If you intended to buy all the included games anyway, compare the current bundle checkout total with your individual purchases. If you only want Belmont’s Curse, the direct edition listing is the relevant starting point.

Steam currently marks Steam Deck compatibility as Unknown. That does not establish Verified support, an unsupported status, or an expected frame rate. Wait for Valve’s compatibility rating or trustworthy final-build evidence if Steam Deck performance is a deciding factor.

How much storage does the game need?

Konami lists minimum required capacity, which is not necessarily the final download size, as follows:

Version Minimum capacity Konami lists
Standard Edition on platforms other than Switch 8 GB
Midnight Edition on platforms other than Switch 10 GB
Standard Edition on Nintendo Switch 4 GB
Midnight Edition on Nintendo Switch 6 GB

These are the full-version edition figures on Konami’s product page. Nintendo separately estimates the Standard Edition’s Switch game file at 4.2 GB, which is not the same metric as Konami’s 4 GB minimum required capacity. Both are pre-release figures, so leave some storage headroom.

The demo has a separate size listing, including 3 GB on Switch, so do not confuse the two downloads.

Check your platform’s store page again before installing, especially if you are managing limited internal storage or a microSD card.

Quick buying decision

The simplest purchase path is Standard Edition if you want the entire game without paying for collectibles or cosmetics. Choose Midnight only if its named digital gallery, costumes and relic justify the extra US $10 to you.

If you already own Standard, check separately listed add-ons before buying an entire second edition. Steam bundles matter mainly if you want the other games in them.

If you are undecided about how the game feels, start with the free demo and keep your account and save data consistent. If you are buying for Switch 2, remember that Nintendo lists a compatible Switch game, and any higher frame rate reported from the demo is not yet a verified guarantee for the full release.

This guide reflects official listings checked October 8, before the October 15 release. Edition offers, store dates and final performance details should be rechecked at launch.
